Demography

According to the latest census from 2002, the city of Satu Mare has a population of 115.142 inhabitants. The structure based on nationality is presented as follows:

From a religious point of view, the population is divided into:

Orthodox (55.956), Protestants (22.475), Roman-Catholics (22.790), Greek-Catholics (9.688), Pentecostals (1.619), Jehova’s Witnesses (954), Baptists (590), Seventh-Day Adventists (342), undeclared religion (127), Atheists (106), Muslims (40), Mozaics (38), Other (417).






One in five inhabitants is employed by the Educational System, which includes 34 kindergartens, 16 high schools, 16 colleges and technical schools. Higher education is reprezented by a branch of Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj, as well as by one from Vasile Goldis University in Arad. Also worth mentioning is the fact that many high-school and college students are thought Hungarian and German.

The Health System is formed of a network of 4 Hospitals, 5 Polyclinics, as well as a growing number of Private Medical Practices.
